DNA BD Desk : The High Court today upheld its earlier order that directed the government to stop production and selling of penicillin and cephalosporin-group and anti-cancer drugs of 28 companies.

Those drugs were found substandard and injurious to public health.

While delivering the verdict, the court also directed the government to form a five-member expert committee to monitor whether the companies have been following good manufacturing practice set by World Health Organisation (WHO).

If the committee finds any of the companies follows the good management practice, the government will allow the company to run their production and selling, the court said.

The five-member committee will be comprised of 16 representatives of WHO and a professor of Dhaka University’s pharmacy department and a member of the health ministry and drug administration, Manzill Murshid, lawyer for the petitioner Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, told The Daily Star.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Mohammad Sagir Hossain and Md Ataur Rahman Khan came up with the verdict after holding hearing the petition.
